Campbell's
Cove, on the shore of Lake Michigan boasts “one of the finest
municipally owned libraries in the country.” (p. 7). The librarian
is the young and intelligent Elizabeth Merritt. We don't see much of
her library duties though. Her primary role in the story is to get
caught making love to a rich woman's gardener.
